My interest in mapping began over twenty years ago with a high school Computer Aided Drafting course. This experience evolved into an Associates Degree in Drafting and Design Technology. After college, I entered the work force at a highway engineering design firm where I was introduced to ArcView 3.x. The complexity of this Geographic Information System, used mainly for planning, fascinated me.
The next career step I took was in 2003 when I began working for Kerry P. Magan Consulting Engineers, a local civil engineering firm. Kerry introduced me to another GIS program and to other uses for GIS beyond planning, such as school district and zoning boundary maps. In 2007, I had the opportunity to build a GIS for the Shelbyville Municipal Water & Sewer Commission, which I still maintain. With Kerry’s encouragement, I started Hartman Spatial Data Consulting in August 2013. As you can see, I enjoy the challenge of taking geospatial data and turning it into a useful map to help people.
Over the years, GIS has become not just a career, but a job I love. It’s rewarding to work with clients and see a project come together, knowing it benefits our community. My goal is to help you better understand, plan, and manage projects for all your personal and business needs. I look forward to working with you!
